Morrisons on course to open Wells store in time for Christmas
Christmas is fast approaching and it is not just Santa Claus who is doing his best to be ready for the big day.
With the signs up and car park finished and waiting for customers, Morrisons look set to meet their target and open the largest retail development ever seen in Wells in time and on target.

Morrisons have previously made it clear that they wished to get the store open in time for Christmas, traditionally the busiest time of year for supermarkets.
However, they are now keeping tight-lipped over the opening date.

A spokesman said that they did not reveal opening dates until the last minute so as to prevent rivals from holding promotions that could tempt customers to stick with the store they already use.
The building work on the store itself appears to be nearing completion with the store’s signs now up.
With the road access on East Somerset Way yet to be finished there is also the possibility that Morrisons do not wish to be held to a date that could still be subject to delay if the winter weather takes a turn for the worse.
Before one stage of development is completed the next is already underway.
Plans for the next stage of development of the former Clares factory site with 88 new homes next to the new store were supported at the last meeting of Wells City Council’s planning and environment committee.
Whether Morrisons achieve their goal of opening in time for the Christmas rush or not they seem certain to be the first of the supermarket developments in Wells to be completed.
Morrisons’ reign as the biggest Wells supermarket will be short-lived – the expanded Tesco on Tucker Street is due to open in the new year and will be bigger.
The Waitrose on Whiting Way is due to open in spring next year.
