Midsomer Norton Sixth Formers excel at Cambridge Pre-U
Becky Hillier and William Comben have been recognised as two of the top students in the country after their Pre-U results. Norton Hill School received its first results from the Cambridge Pre-U qualification this year and they were a superb set of results; over 50% of students achieved an A grade and above in the GPR (Global Perspectives and Research) and 100% of students achieved an A grade in Maths, amongst other exceptional results in the Pre-U. The Cambridge Pre-U was designed for students who are aiming at the top universities and to help them to prepare for this. It allows the most able students to shine, with the ability to achieve grades above the new A* grade. Will Comben has been given an award by the Cambridge Pre-U exam board after he achieved the top score in the country in History Pre-U. Becky has been also been recognised by the Pre-U after she achieved a D1 in the Pre-U Maths qualification. The D1 grade is equivalent to one grade higher than the A* at A level.
Headteacher Peter Beaven said "Both our Sixth Forms produced outstanding results this summer, particularly the Cambridge Pre-U courses. Will and Becky are prime examples of this and they should be congratulated on their excellent achievements."

This September marked the start of the new Midsomer Norton Sixth Form, the first state Sixth Form to offer the Cambridge Pre-U and the only one in the BANES area. The new Sixth Form has almost 400 students on roll and a huge range of Level 3 courses on offer. It started with the Year 12 induction day which included team building games such as the Tug of War and a study skills workshop to help the students prepare for their studies.
The Sixth Form's philosophy is based on academic excellence and examination courses which will ensure that students have access to the best universities, best training and best jobs. To ensure that the academic excellence linked with outstanding teaching is maintained, the Midsomer Norton Sixth Form has the best available Sixth Form teaching drawn from Norton Hill and Somervale Schools. The Sixth Form is managed by an experienced team who ensure that students receive the best advice and guidance possible.
Spread across the two school sites the Sixth Form is able to make the most of the facilities across the two schools, such as the TV and media suites at Somervale; the sports facilities at Norton Hill and the Music Technology suites and Sixth Form libraries in both schools. There are dedicated Sixth Form facilities for study and recreation at both schools and, in addition, the construction of a new Sixth Form Centre will commence at Somervale in October.
