Team Bath Buccaneers C 4 Mid-Somerset Men 2

Mid-Somerset's fight for Central 1 survival took another turn for the worse when they slipped to second from bottom in the table following defeat at Team Bath Buccaneers.

The visitors looked a little rusty in the opening exchanges as Buccs broke the deadlock. Mids could not find their rhythm up front and all their attacking forays led to nothing.

Buccs doubled their lead when a mix-up at the back left an attacker with time and space to fire against the backboards.

And it was 3-0 when a speculative shot from a tight angle crept into the corner but, just before half-time, Ben Rogers reduced the arrears following an intricate ten-pass move led by man of the match James Oliver.

Mids were much improved after the break and pressurised Bath all over the pitch. This led to mistakes and more chances began to come for the visitors.

Oliver further reduced the deficit with a fine reverse-stick strike as Buccs were restricted in possession and Mark Salvage was unlucky not to level the scores when he burst into the area to finish a fine move.

Several dubious decisions denied Mids more opportunities, though, and Buccs sealed the win with a late fourth.

Mids entertain Minehead at the Wells Blues School on Saturday (1pm).
