Mendip golfers make history after being promoted as champions
Mendip Golf Club’s 1st team have gained promotion to Division 1 of the Bristol & District Scratch Foursomes League for the first time in their history.
Captain Steve Rawlings congratulated his squad after they recorded seven wins and a draw from their ten games. They also clinched the title last weekend with a hard-fought 3.5-1.5 victory over fellow promoted side Knowle.
Mendip thanked Chris Phillips of Phillips Tyres, Shepton Mallet, for sponsoring both club teams this season.
Meanwhile, good weather greeted the 132 competitors for the final open competition in the summer calendar at Mendip.

Visitors travelled from as far afield as Bournemouth and Minchinhampton to play in the Senior Mixed Open, which was won by Bob Smallcombe and Mary Ware on 46 points.
That was four ahead of runners-up Hugh Rowdon and Hilary Rowdon , while Rod Speed and Marian Speed were third on 41 and David Kitchenham and Elaine Kitchenham were fourth on 40.
In the visitors’ competition, G Crocker (Wells) and H Bevan (Burnham) won with 40 points, two ahead of A Keenan and C Keenan (Taunton & Pickeridge).
Mendip Spring’s I&V Suttle were third on 37 and fourth place went to P Middleton and J Clark (Clevedon) on 36.
