Clarrie Dunbar's men booked their place in the knockout stages of the Wessex Indoor Bowls League competition with a 122-60 victory over Nailsea last weekend.

It was the Standerwick club's fourth successive win in the competition and they will finish top of the Central Region standings should they beat Weston St Andrews by 16 points in the sixth and final group game on February 24.

Clarries' ladies, meanwhile, progressed to the third round of the Somerset Women County Indoor Bowling Association Double Rink competition with a 44-35 victory over local rivals Purnell.

Clarrie's ladies will be looking for more knockout success on Saturday when they take on Clevedon in the Optika Top Nine, the regional inter-club national knockout competition.

Clarrie will also be looking to reclaim the Mixed Annual Challenge Trophy when they entertain Somerset under-25s on Saturday (2pm).

But the big event at Standerwick this weekend is Saturday's showdown between Clarrie colleagues John Freeman and Russell Francis in the regional men's singles final, with a place at the national finals at stake.
