Melodic Rendezvous claims big win for Jeremy Scott in Sandown’s 32Red Hurdle
Melodic Rendezvous provided trainer Jeremy Scott and jockey Nick Scholfield with the first Grade One success of their careers in Sandown’s 32Red Hurdle.
Once a Somerset farmer who was involved with point-to-pointers, Scott started to try his hand at racing under Rules a few years ago and Melodic Rendezvous had looked an evident type to build his profile when second to Champagne Fever in the big bumper at the Punchestown Festival.
While this two-mile event is an obvious pointer towards the William Hill Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, it was interesting to hear Scott highlight his unbeaten Champion Bumper contender Empiracle as an equal prospect.
A fascinatingly open renewal boiled down to just two horses, Melodic Rendezvous (7-2) eventually pulling four and a half lengths clear of Pendra on the run-in.

“This is our biggest winner in terms of grading,” said Scott.“All the racing this season has been on soft ground, but I’ve always thought he’d handle the better ground later on in the season.
“He has a lot of pace and I think it’s most likely he will end up in the Supreme, but he will be given an entry in the Neptune over two and a half miles as well.
“He started to bloom when won his bumper, the penny dropped and everything came together. I do think Empiracle, who goes straight to the Festival, is a very nice horse too and I don’t like to choose between them.”
