Martyn Starnes: Yeovil Town's disappointment at Preston North End postponement
All of us at Yeovil Town were disappointed that last Saturday’s game against Preston North End had to be postponed. The area around the ground was unsafe for supporters and that was our over-riding concern.
We had insufficient time to make the area safe and the weather forecast on Friday night was not favourable either. We felt it was in the best interests of the club and everybody involved that the game was re-arranged for another date.

A lot of teams have difficult away journeys, as do we, so Preston’s trip south did not factor too heavily in our thinking. Although, I am sure Preston would have been concerned about travelling.
We wanted to play the game because we have been on such a good run of form and because we do not want a lot of midweek games towards the end of the season.

We did not have enough time to clear the big area surround the stadium as well as the pitch so it was felt for those safety reasons that we had to call off the game early on Friday afternoon. Our safety advisory personnel supported that view.
Despite the postponement we are delighted to announce that the game will now be played on Tuesday, February 12. We proposed that date at the start of the week and they responded on Tuesday.
We wanted to get the game scheduled as soon as possible because if we had to wait until March it would add to an already-busy schedule.
It is unfortunate that we have no game this weekend with Oldham Athletic still involved in the FA Cup but it does give the squad a bit of respite ahead of a busy period of games during February and March.
However, the current weather makes it difficult for the lads to train as well. Many grass pitches are unusable at the moment and we are having to rely on all-weather surfaces, but there are not many available.
It is difficult but I am sure that other teams are finding it difficult as well.
We were also delighted to welcome back Joe Edwards to Yeovil Town on a permanent deal last week after two successful loan spells from Bristol City.
Joe has shown his quality in a number of positions already this season and we look forward to him developing his game further.
