Martin Jessopp back in UK after suffering head injury in Portimao test crash
Martin Jessopp’s preparations for his return to the MCE British Superbikes Championship have been hit after a testing crash left him with bleeding on the brain.
The Yeovil rider sustained the head injury and also a broken arm after being thrown from a BMW Superstock bike at Portimao in Portugal. He returned to the United Kingdom on Tuesday after being released from hospital.

However, wintry conditions in the South West hampered his return with his plane landing in Bournemouth instead of Bristol before his taxi reached Dorchester before being unable to continue because of snow.
Taking to his Twitter account @MartinJessopp, the 27-year-old told his 3,600-plus followers: “Portimao test didn’t go to plan. Had big high side and woke up in hospital with bleeding from my brain and a small fracture in arm. I’m just surprised they found a brain.”

Jessopp will be the sole racer in the RidersMotorcycles.com BMW team in 2013, returning to the series where he enjoyed success aboard a Ducati.
He left BSB 12 months ago for a tough year in the 600cc World Supersport series, earning just one point in a campaign blighted by injury and misfortune.
Jessopp’s RidersMotorcycles.com team are currently building three bikes, including a full-specification World Superbikes ride aimed at wildcard entries to the global 1000cc contest. He is also eyeing up competing in selected road races.
The BSB season starts in April at Brands Hatch.
