Mark Steel Comes to Town to come to town
COMEDIAN Mark Steel spent some quality time in Glastonbury this week as he carried out research for a unique comedy show.
He was visiting the town as part of his award winning Radio 4 comedy show, Mark Steel Comes to Town show, which sees him travelling to small towns in the UK and write a stand-up show tailored entirely for a audience made up of locals.
"It's great here, isn't it?" he said, pointing cheerfully at The Psychic Piglet in Glastonbury High Street.
"Most places I visit, you have to scratch beneath the surface a little, but Glastonbury is like 'here we are, this is us. Take us or leave us.'
"For a show like this, where the whole show is about that town, I will go and spend a day there and get books to research as well.
"I try to ask someone someone local, from a museum or something like that, to show me around. I am looking for something different, a story. Then I get a load of books, some music by local bands and spend some time researching and writing, before coming back to do the show, and to make sure nothing has changed before I actually get on stage, and it's all up to date."
Mr Steel will come back to the town to unveil his experiences of Glastonbury in a gig at a yet-to-be-announced venue in the town.
