Bath City chairman Manda Rigby insists that she will not make a ‘snap judgement’ over the future of manager Adie Britton following the club’s costly exit from the FA Cup on Tuesday night.

Cash-strapped City missed out on a potential windfall of more than £20,000 when they crashed out of the competition with a 3-1 third qualifying round replay defeat at Evo-Stik League side Gosport Borough.

The result was described by Britton as the most disappointing in his seven-year stay at Mayday Trust Park and comes on top of a run that has seen City win just ten of their last 56 league matches.

It sparked calls for a change in the coaching staff from some quarters and Britton himself said he would know more about his position “over the next couple of days” in the immediate aftermath at Gosport’s Privett Park.

Rigby was yesterday in the dark as to whether the manager, who steered City to a tenth-place finish in Blue Square Bet Premier only 18 months ago, will be in the dugout for Saturday’s home game with Hayes & Yeading.

She said: “It is my job – and that of the board of directors – to take the best decisions for the club and that includes not reacting to emotional events, rather taking stock to come up with the best decision.

“We lost to Gosport, we have been both the victim of cup upsets and, in the past, perpetrators of them. That’s what happens in football.

“What is best for the club will be the driving principle.”

Victory at Gosport would have netted City £7,500 in prize money and left a trip to lowly Slough between them and a place in the first round.
