Man risks life to rescue injured seagull from freezing pond
An animal rescue worker risked his life by paddling a dinghy out onto a freezing pond to rescue a seagull.
The bird, which had swallowed a fish hook, was spotted by concerned Kevin Elsmore on a pond near his home in Bridgwater, Somerset, on Saturday evening.
Secret World Animal Rescue driver Kelvin Mills went to Eastover Park the next day, borrowed an inflatable dinghy and balanced on top of the boat to pull the bird to safety.
Animal-lover Kevin said: “I had tried to wade out to free it using my chest waders and got rather wet and cold. The water was too deep.”
