An elderly man was pulled from a fast-moving weir in Taunton by fire crews after he was spotted by a passer by.

Two fire crews from Taunton and the Specialist Water Rescue Team from Bridgwater were sent to Vivary Park at just before 8am yesterday. It is unclear why he was in the water.

Crews used six dry suits and water safety gear to rescue the man via a stretcher.

He was handed over to ambulance crews who were on the scene and then conveyed to hospital.
