Mr Mirams received serious injuries to his left leg, which left him permanently disabled and unable to work.
Speaking in 2006 Mr Mirams said: "I can remember it as if it were yesterday.
"I was hit on the back of the head, kicked violently on the top of my leg and then punched on the back.
"They then jumped up and down on my leg, shattering the bone.
"There were nine or ten people in the crowd, but I think it was about five of them that actually attacked me.
"There is no obvious reason why I should have been attacked."
Although the assault was investigated at the time and a man arrested, he was released without charge.
However, the case remained open and was recently reviewed.
