Make the most of county choice
There's always an excuse for eating out or having a drink during the festive season, whether it's a late lunch with work colleagues, a reunion dinner with family or Christmas party with friends.
Whatever the size or nature of your get-together bear in mind that pubs and restaurants across mid-Somerset will be taking bookings now if they aren't booked up already, so reserve your table soon to avoid missing out.
One pub that's worth checking out this Christmas is The Ring O' Bells in Wookey, which has a new landlord and lady.
Julie and Nigel Bourne took over in October and are both delighted with their new pub.

"We've made some changes in the back of house, installed a new kitchen along with our fantastic new chef, Carl Mitchell," said Julie.
Carl comes from the Globe and the City Arms and his food has a very well-deserved reputation for quality.
"Beer is important too," says Nigel, "I am a very keen real ale enthusiast and with Wadworth's great range of beer, along with Thatchers and Blackthorn ciders, we've got something for everyone."
Wine drinkers are catered for too, with an ever increasing wine list, matched to the food on offer. The pub's Christmas menu is available now, and promises to be a big hit.
The "Ringer" also has quiz nights, live music and of course, a skittle alley.
Skittles is new to Julie and Nigel, who've come from South London to a new life in Wookey.
"It's a fantastic change for us, and a huge chance to embrace village life away from a big city", Julie said.
"It's easy to make friends here, and we're really looking forward to Christmas and the New Year".
The pub is open seven days a week from 12 noon to 12pm and serves food every day except Mondays. It's starting to get very busy now, and booking for dinner is very advisable.
Meanwhile up and coming Shepton Mallet cider maker Worley's Cider have just been granted an off-sales licence for their premises in Dean, and they're hoping you'll pay them a visit for all your Christmas cider this year.
In addition to the Worley's range of traditional still farmhouse ciders you can now try the bottled Premium Vintage and Mendip Hills, both of which have received glowing reviews and are disappearing fast.
"We've got some lovely three-bottle gift packs that are perfect for Christmas presents," says founder Neil Worley. We're also selling our popular spiced mulled cider which tastes fantastic with a mince pie or two."
Worley's Cider was established three years ago by cider maker Neil Worley and his partner Helen Burge. They've been making cider for nearly a decade but decided to take things further after winning several awards, including a first prize at the prestigious Royal Bath & West Show cider competition.
"Our approach is to make the best cider we can, without compromise," says Neil. "We use a combination of traditional and more contemporary techniques to make ciders that suit the modern palate, and always get a very positive response."
"It's all been great fun," says Neil, "and we've been very lucky to have loads of support from family, friends and neighbours to help us to get the business off the ground. We'd like to say a big thank you to them."
"We're ideally situated being just off the A361 between Shepton and Frome, so we're hoping to welcome a lot of new customers in the run-up to Christmas."
Another favourite in the heart of Somerset is The Sherston Inn, in Wells, a pub that boasts both chef prepared food in a restaurant style area with an atmospheric bar.
There is also a function room available and a well presented garden and decking outside to relax in.
