Make a PACT to work with your community
Street residents can help to decide policing policy in their area tonight.
The Street Partnership and Communities Together (PACT) meeting will be held at the Victoria Club, Street, at 7pm, giving residents the chance to talk to police and representatives of other agencies.
A PACT spokesman said it was a chance for the public to say how their neighbourhood could be improved.
"Whatever problems people think need tackling to make the area feel safer, whatever the issue, from noise to graffiti, street lighting to anti-social behaviour, they can have their say at the PACT meeting," he said.
"They will speak directly with a panel of decision-makers from the police, council and key local agencies, who will put together an action plan to address the top three issues agreed by the meeting.
"The aim of Partners And Communities Together is to build trust and confidence by dealing with those issues that have the most impact.
"It involves communities and partners working together to bring about change by identifying and meeting the communities' needs."
Sgt Mark Edgington, who is based at Street police station, said: "The PACT process is a very exciting one.
"There is no debate in PACT. People tell the partners what is important and we concentrate our combined resources on finding solutions to the top three issues.
"The partners then have to report their actions at the next meeting.
"This really is people power in action."
The meeting will also look at progress made on the priorities raised at the last meeting – more police presence at Merriman Gardens, reinstatement of traffic lights and pedestrian crossing on A39 West Way, and traffic problems in Leigh Road.
