A controversial demon-haunted box will be re-opened in Cheddar Gorge and strange things have already started happening.

Two years ago Jez Starr, the Dreaded Mentalist, introduced the concept of the Jewish Dybbuk box, an idea now fuelling new Hollywood horror movie The Possession.

Jez’s original show, The Thirteenth Box, was held in Gough’s Cave and one carer in the audience said she was dogged by power-draining events immediately afterwards. Her camera batteries constantly lost charge during the event – but not before photographing strange lights – and a weird force constantly tugged on her car while driving home.

Another person fainted during a performance and the show was picketed by religious fundamentalists offering to pray for the audience’s souls.

Now the magician himself is suffering the curse in the run up to his show, but not all of it can be blamed on an unleashed demon.

Jez said: “Just like last time, I seem to have someone taking down my posters as soon as I put them up.

“I would love to blame the Dybbuk as since I’ve got the box out for ‘rehearsals’ all sorts of things have been happening.

“We are getting our fire alarms going off in the middle of the night at 5am with nothing even cooking, power surges, punctured tyres since transporting the box on new tyres, our phone line broke, new DVD player broke, and a new tablet PC had to be replaced four times.

“But I still think the Dybbuk has nothing to do with the posters.”

This time The Thirteenth Box will take place in The White Hart, not the caves, and time travel has been promised to one lucky audience member who will see how the Dybbuk boxes were originally made.

The show is on Friday, November 2, and Saturday, November 3. Doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start. Audience must be aged 16-plus and the show is not for the faint of heart.
