Lucky escape for pedestrian after accident on Broad Street, Wells
AN ELDERLY pedestrian had a lucky escape after she was hit by a reversing car.
The accident happened on the corner of Broad Street and the High Street in Wells on Wednesday 23.
Elspeth McRae, 86, of Wells was taken to hospital in an ambulance having hit her head following an accident involving a Volkswagen Golf.
“Apart from bruises, more of which seem to appear each day and a broken little finger I’m ok.
“I’m feeling shaky but I’m grateful that the accident wasn’t more serious” Said Mrs McRea.
Police, ambulances and the fire service attended the incident.
Mrs McRae was taken to hospital by land ambulance and sent home after being kept in for observation.
Mrs McRae remembers coming out of Bar Italia but after that the next thing she remembers is travelling in the ambulance to the hospital.
She said: “I’m not sure what happened as I have no memory of the incident other than waking up with the paramedics.
“I think I went into shock.”
An eye witness claimed at 4.10pm that emergency services appeared to be treating a lady in the middle after the road. They said she was hit by a reversing car.
The police said no one has been charged following the accident.
