Losing sequence broken in style by Gurner's men
Timsbury Athletic 5 Backwell United 1
When you have gone more than five months without claiming a single league point, you might as well break the sequence in style.
-

And so it was for Timsbury Athletic, who stunned Backwell United with a 5-1 home win in the Errea Somerset County League Premier Division.
Fifteen consecutive league defeats seemed like nothing more than a distant memory as the home side rattled in five first-half goals against a side who not long ago had promotion aspirations.
Timsbury had the ball in the net in the first minute only to have it ruled out for offside but, after keeper Wayne Gay had done well to foil Darren Brown at the other end, the home side went ahead after nine minutes when Steve Baker, who never stopped running, caught Gary Clarke off his line.
Gay again rescued Timsbury with a fine save from Ben Garland before manager Sam Gurner, making a rare appearance, added number two after 25 minutes.
On his 500th appearance for Timsbury, he showed he had lost none of his predatory talents with a clinical finish.
Gurner then turned creator with a fine cross which Baker headed home before having to make do with a 30-minute cameo role as injury saw him replaced by Russell Davies.
Still the goals came at pace, however, with Les Allen confidently converting a penalty after Alex Young had been scythed down and Davies adding a fifth after being set up by Adam Pugsley.
Brown, who always carried Backwell's main threat, almost pulled one back for the visitors just before half-time but was too high.
Inevitably the second half failed to match the earlier 45 minutes for goals but both teams had their chances.
Gay saved well from Garland, while Davies, Allen and Baker all had chances to add to their first-half tallies.
Brown did pull one back for the visitors after 70 minutes but it was no more than a token gesture and Timsbury could have added to their lead but for wasteful finishing.
The match was sponsored by the PRW Group.
