Local Mums Launch Website for Parents in Portishead
Portishead
mums Jane Batt and Rachel McClary are launching Practically Perfect Mums, an
information website for parents and carers in Portishead. The pair first met at
the NCT bumps & babes group which Jane was running when their eldest
children were still babies. Jane and her son also became regulars at Rachel's
toddler music group and the mums have been friends ever since.
"Like most
modern mums my life is very busy. When my children and I find ourselves with a
free time slot I want to have access to a comprehensive guide to activities in
our local area so I can be sure we make the most of our valuable time. Lots of
other mums were telling me they couldn't find a resource which just
concentrated on our local area and so I came up with the idea of Practically
Perfect Mums – a website with the primary aim of offering a clear guide to what's
on in and around Portishead" says Jane.
Practically
Perfect Mums has drawn together information about dozens of local activities, groups
and events and transformed it into a unique format, easy to read what's on
guide for Portishead. In addition to lots of practical advice about times,
prices and venues, there is also some fun stuff like an essential coffee guide,
because there have been many times when a decent cappuccino was a make or break
factor in choosing where to go on a Wednesday morning!
The
site will offer a wealth of information and talking points in mumschat and
there will also be reviews on a range of 'family friendly' products, services
and venues as well as handy tips and some great competitions. The name
Practically Perfect Mums is a tongue in cheek reference to the chaos that
ensues when looking after young children. We are none of us perfect but we can
support each other and so feedback, relevant discussion and user comments will
be actively encouraged.
Jane, mum
to 3 boys aged 8, 5 and 3, has a career background in TV and video production.
For many years she storyboarded, wrote, filmed, edited and voiced-over
programmes on a broad range of subjects including heart and hip surgery, sports
coaching, space satellites and corporate promotion.
Rachel, mum to 3 girls aged 7, 3 and 1,
writes a successful Parenting and Early Education blog Right from the Start. She contributes to the Netmums site and The Huffington Post, has written a bedtime story for a charity book and
is currently writing her first children's book. Her career background is in
Early Education most recently as a local authority advisor.
Practically
Perfect Mums is a resource for the local community. As such Rachel and Jane are keen to hear from
local groups, venues and services who would like to be included in the what's
on Guide. A basic listing is free of charge and all that's asked is that
information is updated on a termly basis to ensure all details are current.
They are
also keen to hear from local businesses who would like them to review products
or services, from family days out and dining with kids to educational toys and
outdoor equipment.
