Live power cables snap above street in Wiveliscombe

Residents in Wiveliscombe were told to stay indoors today after two power cables snapped and fell into a road.

Fire crews joined Western Power Distribution engineers at the scene in South Street shortly before 10am this morning.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Two power cables had snapped and were arcing on vehicles in the street.

"Crews made the scene safe and advised local residents to stay in their premises."
