Listen to opponents of South Bristol link road
THE planning application for the South Bristol Link has been submitted and a large number of comments have been made. By August 22 there were 149 objections listed on the consultation website, many from North Somerset residents. If the 38 comments in favour from Barrow Gurney are excluded, there are just 15 in favour of which four came form Glastonbury.
We therefore have about 10:1 against the proposal, excluding those few in Barrow Gurney who think they may benefit from a reduction in traffic.
The parish council and residents of Long Ashton have objected to the proposal at every consultation, but it seems that our voice has not been heard. Wrington parish council has also presented a well argued case against the road. However, the North Somerset Council executive persist in stating that there is no opposition to the road from North Somerset residents.
The objectors are assembling a powerful case that the road will not achieve the claimed benefits and will have a very detrimental effect on the local environment.

I hope the executive and other councillors who will make the decision on the planning application, will be open minded enough to listen to and rationally consider the counter arguments.
