Radstock Town Council is planning to shoot for the stars during this year's countdown to the festive season.

At the last meeting of the council councillors were asked to consider a different design of Christmas light.

Chairwoman Lesley Mansell said: "We all appreciate these as they brighten up those gloomy days in December and its great to see the miners wheel depicted by fairy lights."

The council agreed to have shooting stars as a change to the current ones, which have been used for some years.

"These will be switched on at a ceremony on December 7 and all are welcome at the Miner's Wheel," said Mrs Mansell.

The council is also considering whether to hold a party for senior citizens, which is a long-standing tradition in Radstock.

The council agreed to find out if people would prefer this to be held in the daytime or the evening.
