Light snow and sub-zero temperatures forecast in Somerset

Somerset is braced for a bitterly cold couple of days, with temperatures set to feel as low as -10C amid strong winds.

Hats and gloves may be a necessity today - wind gusts could reach speeds of 46mph, and a light flurry of snow is forecast this afternoon in parts of Somerset.

Strong winds will continue to batter much of the region overnight, making temperatures feel as low as -10C.

The Met Office forecasts wind gusts of up to 34mph tomorrow. Temperatures will linger around the 1-4C mark but it will feel considerably colder – as chilly as -3C.

And another flurry of the white stuff is forecast in parts of Somerset tomorrow morning.

The strong winds of Monday and Tuesday are expected to subside mid-week, but temperatures could feel as low as -4C overnight.

Heavy showers are forecast on Wednesday afternoon and much of Friday. Wind gusts could reach speeds of 29mph as the weekend draws near.

A level three cold alert - warning of an increased risk to the health of vulnerable patients and disruption to the delivery of services - has been issued in the South West.

The ‘severe weather action’ alert came into force on Sunday and remains in place until Thursday.
