Let's find the 'stupid' builder who did this
On Saturday morning, February 6, I drove round a bend in the road on top of the Mendips and narrowly avoided colliding with a vehicle coming in the opposite direction.
The cause of this near head-on accident was clear to see – the oncoming car had swerved to avoid rubbish scattered on the highway.

Somebody had fly-tipped building rubble onto the verge and in their haste to carry out the crime had managed to scatter debris all over the road. I pulled over and rang Somerset County Council's Highway Department, and was dealt with very courteously and efficiently by a young lady who undertook to have the matter dealt with as a matter of urgency. True to her word, the rubbish was removed within the hour.
But what about the perpetrator of this dangerous anti-social behaviour? What do we know about him? Well, from looking through the rubbish it seems clear that he is re-roofing and re-glazing a property and buys his building materials from Jewson.
He clearly drinks a lot of Coca Cola while doing so. The property he is working on is having its old red 'Roman' style tiles replaced by new ones.
I doubt that he is a professional builder as fly-tipping is not something a bona fide tradesman would do. I suspect that he is working locally because if he is lazy enough to dump his rubbish on the road he is probably too lazy to travel far – so Priddy, Rodney Stoke, Draycott and Westbury-sub-Mendip seem likely places. He obviously has a small tipper truck.
My message to him if he reads this is as follows: through your anti-social behaviour, thoughtlessness and sheer stupidity, you endangered the lives of innocent motorists and presented the taxpayers of Somerset with the bill for cleaning up after you.
I suspect that you will do the same again before too long – but maybe next time you will get caught and I will have the satisfaction of seeing you shamed in court. I look forward to seeing you.
