Lack of wind doesn't stop Sutton Bingham Sailing Club's RNLI race day
A lack of wind failed to deter 12 sailors from competing at Sutton Bingham’s annual race day in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
Chris Jones and Chris Bottomley gained an early lead in Sunday’s opening race that was delayed by 30 minutes to allow wind to build on the reservoir near Yeovil.

Jones held on to take glory with his Phantom in the two-lap outing, followed by Andy Roxburgh (Solo), Howard Frear (Streaker) and Bottomley (Phantom).
The afternoon pursuit race saw Max Robertson in a Tera first away followed ten minutes later by Andy Huntley’s Comer Duo leading the rest of the fleet. The fastest Phantoms were a further ten minutes behind.

The light Sutton Bingham winds proved testing and meant it took the Phantoms the duration of the race to break clear having caught up within 40 minutes. Pete Barnstable capsized but did not trouble the rescue facilities before Huntley pipped Jones - now sailing a Laser - to first when the race was halted after an hour and a half.
New club commodore Alan Chin also presented prizes to Tracy Neil sailing a Laser as first lady and Max Robertson as first junior, whilst the sailing club gave £120 to the RNLI from race entries.
