'Knickerless Cage' versus Banksy in art contest
Rumours are rife that two more celebrities have entered the infamous Turnip Prize contest.
A cage of naked Barbie dolls are thought to be linked to Hollywood superstar Nicolas Cage, as the work is called Knickerless Cage.
Contest organiser Trevor Prideaux said: "This entry was left at my front door, someone knocked and walked away. When I looked out to see who it was I saw a very attractive oriental lady walking down my drive.
"When I asked her name she replied Alice. After making some enquiries it turn out Alice is Nick Cage's partner."
The Con Air star was probably in the vicinity at the time the art work was dropped off as he is turning on the Christmas lights in Bath on Thursday.
The tradition of Bristol graffiti artist Banksy is also going strong as two entries have been credited to the man whose wall etchings fetch thousands.
The first Banksy is called Banksy Turnip Prize the X Factor and is a stencil portrait of Simon Cowell with a speech bubble saying: "Does anyone actually take this kind of art seriously."
The work is mounted into a cheap plastic gold frame and has a trademark Banksy rat attached.
The second Banksy is a 3ft 6in by 3ft piece of Somerlap fencing with "Don't take a fence" sprayed on it.
Mr Prideaux said: "Over the past three years we have had a growing rapport with the Bristol-based artist and we are delighted that he takes The Turnip Prize extremely seriously.
"I have made various enquiries into the authenticity of the work and have been informed that it is certainly in the style of Banksy and one of the pieces bares a secret signature that Banksy has been using on all of his recent work.
"The fact that it was left anonymously only adds to the growing possibility that it could be. One thing for sure is that it is unlikely to win as the prize is only awarded to the person who has created something that they perceive to be crap art using the least amount of effort possible."
The deadline for entries closes today and entries can be left at the New Inn, Wedmore.
The winner will be judged on Monday, December 7 at the pub at 6.30pm.
