It may only be February but Christmas celebrations in Wells have already taken a blow.

A dream job opportunity means that Paul Toole, the King of Christmas Lights, will not have time to create his usual spectacular festive light show this year.

Each year Paul and his team put on a huge show at their bungalow and raises thousands of pounds for charity in the process.

The displays have become a cult phenomenon since they featured on a Channel 4 documentary in 2011.

At the end of the programme Paul was crowned the King of Christmas Lights, a title he wears with pride.

However, now Paul thinks he will be too busy to put in the huge effort his Manning Close spectacular requires.

Paul has now been made a marketing and public relations representative with Festive Lights, one of the largest online retailers of Christmas lights and decorations.

Paul said: “I feel more than lucky to have been head hunted, and I couldn’t have wished for a better job or position.

“They also have a showroom packed with wonderful products. It really is like being a kid in a sweet shop, as the term goes.”

At first Paul will be making videos and promotions for their stock before really getting stuck in and designing Christmas displays and visiting customers across the country.

All this new responsibility will mean that Paul doesn’t think he’ll have time for his Manning Close display.

He said: “Sadly though, I don’t think I’ll have too much time for a display in Manning Close, but you never know. There will be some kind of display aspect, but how big, really depends on what time I’ll have available.”

Anyone wishing to take up the mantle of decorator extraordinaire might be in luck.

Paul is planning a sale of some of his enormous stock of lights.

He has a 40ft lock-up at Tincknells where there will be thousands of lights and figures up for grabs.
