A Wincanton teenager who shaved off his curly ginger locks has raised £600 for charity.

Zac Smith, of King Arthur's School, had his head shaved in December 2012 to raise money for St Margaret's Hospice – who looked after his mum, Sue, during her final weeks.

"Personally, I think Zac was very brave to go ahead with the head shave, and he has raised more than £600.

"This is a phenomenal amount of money in such a short time.

"It takes £10 million each year to keep our Yeovil and Taunton sites going, so people like Zac make a huge difference to us, and help us to carry on providing our specialist end-of-life care for people across Somerset."

After a 16-month battle with cancer, Sue passed away in her sleep on September 26, 2011. She was 51 years old.
