On Saturday, two athletes won gold in the first round of the 2009 GB Biathle Series, held at Millfield.

Kitty Snaydon, a nine-year-old pupil from Millfield Prep School, competed first and kept in touch with the leaders during the first 500m run.

A superb 50m swim saw Kitty leave the pool in first place, a position she easily held during the second 500m run, crossing the line to take gold and firmly establishing herself as the competitor to beat.

Not to be out done by his granddaughter, John Sutton from Street SC and Wells Harriers set a cracking pace in the first 1,000m run, going into the swim with a commanding lead over the remainder of the 60+ age group.

Extending his lead during the 100m swim, John stormed further ahead of the competition during the second 1,000m run, to take gold.
