Junior rugby round-up: Wells under-16s win at Frome
Frome U16 0 Wells U16 57
Wells under-16s were comprehensive winners on their first trip to Frome for several seasons.
While the hosts had the bare 15 players, Wells travelled with a 19-strong squad, including debutant Doug.
Wells quickly secured possession and Matt T went on a good run before offloading for Dan to score the first try, converted by Harry.
Matt got Wells' second try and went on to score a hat-trick, while Adam and Zac also crossed to earn the visitors a 38-0 lead.
Wells made regular changes throughout the game, with many players asked to take to the field away from their usual positions.
However, they still managed to keep Frome at bay and scored further tries through Dan, Adam and Jack H.
Wells U15 63 Frome U15 0
Wells under-15s recorded their first win of the season in fine style on Sunday, playing exhilarating rugby along the way.
Wells started with conviction and scored within a minute, taking advantage of a Frome knock-on following the kick-off.
The first half was a spectacle of flowing rugby, characterised by excellent ball retention, support play and offloads that maintained pressure throughout, while the Wells defence was solid when called upon.
The Wells forwards made several driving runs after the break and the backs also impressed with four more tries.
Wells' tries were scored by Angus Mitchel, Joe Kerrigan, Will Curtis, Bertie Handley, Charlie Willcox, Luke Taylor and Ryan Grout.
Cheddar U8 13 Burnham U8 7
Cheddar and Burnham under-8s played some good running rugby as the season began with a local derby.
Both teams looked a little rusty early on but soon found their feet. Cheddar were first to score with a breakaway try from Clarke.
Holmes added another but Burnham quickly responded with two of their own.
Captain Creaser led from the front with more tries for Cheddar but the rest of the half was end-to-end, with tenacious tagging from the impressive Crossland.
Holmes bagged another try before a terrific team effort launched new signing Hacker over in the corner.
Both teams looked to throw the ball around in the second half and Cheddar finished on a high with tries from Stoyles, Clarke, Salamanca and Handsford, who was never far from the action.
Creaser bagged a couple more before a turnover ball deep into the Burnham half allowed player of the match Stoyles to complete the scoring in injury-time.
Cheddar entertain Avonmouth Old Boys this weekend.
Anyone aged six or over interested in joining Cheddar can visit Sharpham Road Playing Fields at 10am on Sundays or go to www.cheddar- rugby.co.uk for more information.
Wells U12 35 Chew Valley U12 5
Wells under-12s were comfortable winners in a match split into four quarters against Chew Valley on Sunday.
An evenly-matched first quarter saw a battle of the scrums and rucks, with Wells pinned on their tryline on a number of occasions but producing excellent defence to restrict Chew to one try.
The second quarter favoured Wells as some clever set-piece play found gaps in Chew's defence to allow the hosts to score five tries.
Chew fought back during the third and final quarters and stayed strong and determined to the end but Wells crossed for two more tries, including one for newcomer Patrick Bulger.
