Junior football round-up: Wells City U14s beat Aller Park in Somerset Lewin Cup
Wells City U14 2 Aller Park U14 1
Wells City under-14s beat Aller Park to reach the second round of the Somerset Lewin Cup.
In pouring rain, the first half ended goalless, with the Wells defensive line of Caleb Ford, Niklas Healy, Oak Sheldrake and Tom Lafferty working overtime to snuff out any chances.
The midfield of Sam Winkworth, Louie Ellis and Scott Ricketts could only create a few half-chances as they looked to combine with forwards Sammy Wilson, Angus Panton and Oliver Glass.
The sun returned for the second half and some tactical substitutions re-ignited Wells. The fresh legs and added pace of Liam Davies, Shaka Moody and Michal Widecki up front finally broke the deadlock, with Davies netting the goal.
Moody added the second with a cool finish after a missed clearance by Aller's defence.
Aller fought back hard and scored when a looping cross deceived Matt Brown and ended up in the net.
Park kept the pressure on but Brown made some excellent saves to ensure Wells went through.
Cheddar under-8s were in fine form at the North Somerset five-a-side tournament at Worle School on Saturday.
The squad divided into two teams for the competition, with the Tigers and Dynamos producing some inspired football in matches against Portishead, Weston, Nailsea, Burnham and Axbridge.
Cheddar received a trophy for finishing top in the Platinum section.
