Join pirates at Frome carnival day
CARNIVAL day on Saturday, September 21, will herald a day full of festivities with an abundance of pirates lurking around Frome town centre.
Not only will there be the traditional afternoon procession from Victoria Park and the evening cavalcade, lots of activities have been organised to entertain Frome families throughout the day.
In the town centre there will be street entertainers, music, circus workshops, graffiti art and face painting. Entertainment will include the Firestar circus workshops, Frome Street Bandits, Pangotti Theatre, Honk Monster, Cabaret Sans Frontiers, the Mendip Drummers and Frome Town Band.
Families are also being invited to dress up as a pirate and join a hunt for hidden treasure. Pirate hats and eye patches are being made at Mistress Marvel's costume cabin outside Frome Library between 11am and noon.
In the run-up to carnival day families are invited to Victoria Park for the annual sponsored pram race this Sunday.
Pram pushers willing to enter are asked to gain sponsorship for the race with the funds split equally between the charity if their choice and the carnival.
Following the pram race there will be a carnival quiz at the Masons Arms from 7.30pm.
And don't forget the spot the object competition sponsored by the Frome Standard in which residents pick up an entry form for £1 and wander around the town to find the unusual object in shop windows, with a £50 cash prize.
The children's carnival procession begins at 2.30pm from Victoria Park and the evening parade starts at 7pm from the Marston Trading Estate.
Anyone who would like to take part in any of the events coming up over the next few weeks should call June Barnes on 01373 461625.
