A Christmas party for people who may otherwise miss out on celebrating the big day is planned again for this year – with organisers hoping lots of people will come forward to volunteer on the day.

Frome's elderly residents, those who live alone and those who cannot afford a good Christmas will be welcomed to the Cheese and Grain for Frome's Big Christmas Get-together.

"The 2012 Christmas event promises to be just as wonderful, with delicious food, great entertainment and brilliant company.

"Guests will be invited to take part in a Christmas to remember, making new friends and enjoying a full traditional Christmas lunch, complete with gifts and entertainment."

The event has already gained the support of a number of businesses and organisations, including Frome Wholefoods, in Cheap Street.

It is run solely by volunteers, who will work together to ensure everything is covered, from venue decorating, food preparation and cooking, to transport for guests, meeting and greeting and washing up.

Miss Thomas said: "We are looking for volunteers in a huge variety of roles and we would like to hear from anyone who can give a few hours over the Christmas period, to help make someone else's Christmas extra special.

"Everyone deserves a great Christmas, so this event is for those Frome residents who need a helping hand.

"Frome's Big Christmas Get-together brings people together to create a really special day, for both guests and volunteers."

Anyone who would like to volunteer or be a guest at the event is asked to email Sandy at fromechristmas@gmail.com.

If you don't have access to email contact the Somerset Standard and we will pass on your details.
