Job hunters and recruiters flock to job sites after summer break
Jobhunters in the county are expected to flock to job sites over the next few days as both employers and those looking for work look ahead after the summer break.
Vast numbers of school or college leavers will be looking to find long-term employment for the first time.
Christie Davis-Weaver, recruitment consultant at HR GO Recruitment, Wells said: “People are looking for on-going rather than temporary work and are being more choosy. People are afraid of losing their Job Seekers Allowance by taking on part-time work. We have lots of vacancies to fill at the moment. Companies are looking to take on new staff in preparation for the run up to Christmas.”
Simon Devitt, classified development director at Local World, said the shock of returning to work after the summer holidays increased many people’s desire to find a new job.
“Jobsites in the UK are used to big upturns in job hunting on two particular days. The first day back after Christmas and the first Monday back in September. Lunchtime on the relevant day often lead to sites hitting peak traffic and on occasions crashing.
“The theory is that this is when the most people simultaneously get back from holidays. The combination of contemplating their life while enjoying some time off work and the shock of the return to work increases the motivation to find a new job.
“Savvy recruiters are aware of this and get their recruitment campaigns live for these days but what is amazing is how few managers are aware and underestimate the impact they could have by themselves be less motivated or absent on this first day back.
“As the economy is recovering and we enter the peak season for recruitment between September and November jobhunters, recruiters and managers need to either to get the best candidates or keep them. Over recent years being in a down turn means that this has been less important now though with the jobs market recovering good employees can move easily.”
