Jane Asher to help launch Somerset Chairman's Charities
JANE Asher will bring a touch of glamour to the Somerset Chairman’s Charities launch on Wednesday.
The renowned actress and baker is president of the the National Autistic Society, one of the two charities set to benefit. Somerset Trust for Arts and Recreation (STAR) is county council chairman David Fothergill’s other chosen charity.
The chairman’s charities launch will take place at Hestercombe Gardens on Wednesday, September 18. Councillor Fothergill aims to raise £50,000 over the next four years for his two favoured charities.
Jane Asher will speak about the National Autistic Society’s work and its strong links to Somerset. The county hosted the first specialist centre for adults with autism, Somerset Court, which opened in 1974.
Steve Clark from STAR will tell guests about the charity’s work in improving the lives of disadvantaged children, including those in Somerset County Council’s care. The money raised will help children with music and sports tuition and equipment as well as fund simple pleasures such as trips to the seaside or Christmas parties.
