The award winning Street Theatre Company's production of Jim Cartwright's The Rise and Fall of Little Voice is an inspirational story about a painfully shy young woman Little Voice, or LV as she is known.

A hopeless introvert, LV can only manage to express herself by singing in the timeless voices of Judy Garland, Shirley Bassey and many others.

Once her over-powering mother's new boyfriend – a sleazy talent scout – overhears LV's incredible voice, he's determined to do anything to drag her into the spotlight and make her a star.

The play won the Evening Standard and Olivier awards for best comedy.

It is a heartwarming, uplifting, often hilarious story and a first class example of fantastic British scriptwriting talent.

It brings together a collection of characters each with their own story to tell.

It is not often performed by amateurs, largely because of the demand to find someone who can produce the "voices" of a standard required to play the role of LV.

Ahead of directing this latest production, Street Theatre member Paul Townsend said: "I auditioned the role of LV role much earlier than the others because if we were unable to find someone who I was confident would be able to handle the role, we would have chosen a different play to perform instead.

"Thankfully, we found an exceptional talent on our doorstep.

"Local girl Charlotte Wood has taken on the role of LV with massive enthusiasm and skill, resulting in some amazing vocal gymnastics to recreate the timeless voices of great female singers."

Using a live band on stage, Street Theatre will recreate the atmosphere of a northern club back in the 1990s.

The show runs at Strode Theatre, in Street, from November 7 to 10, and tickets can be booked from the Strode Theatre Box Office on 01458 442846 or online at www.strodetheatre.co.uk.
