Inquiry over hockey pitch footpath move on popular Yeovil green space
A planning inspector is today hearing evidence over whether a footpath should be moved to make way for an artificial hockey pitch on a popular green space in Yeovil.
South Somerset District Council has planning permission to build the £800,000 facility on Yeovil Recreation Ground.
But a footpath passes through the proposed site and requires a special order to divert it.
Without the change the hockey pitch cannot be built.

Inspector Roger Pritchard is hearing cases from the council who propose moving the footpath and residents opposing the alteration.
Action group Save Yeovil Rec are against any building on the popular recreation ground.
The site was once the planned location of South Somerset District Council's £28million leisure complex called the Sport Zone.
But the scheme was later dropped.
