Impressive Half times
Cheddar Running Club fielded 11 of its members at the Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday, recording some impressive times along the way, including some personal bests.
With almost 10,000 taking part, 10 Cheddar runners came in under the two-hour mark. Shane Roach was first home for the club in a new personal best of 1.35.
V55 runner Tony Watts was two minutes behind in 1.37, and was 14th in his age category. Jim Scott (V50) was just behind in 1.38, followed by another V50 Charles Garbutt in 1.41. Marc Bostock recorded 1.43, ahead of V55 Phil Paton in 1.45 and V50 Nigel Redman in 1.47.
First lady home for the club was Jo Burke (V35) in 1.47, leading Karen Graves home in 1.49. Both runners have significantly lowered their best times this season. Howard Amey (V45) passed the finish line in 1.56, followed by V45 athlete Alison Robinson in 2.06.
This summer has also seen the club taking a full part in the new series of 5k races along the Esplanade at Burnham and up to 17 members entered each event – many seeing their times tumble over the series.
The best times recorded by Cheddar runners during the series were Simon Tucker for the men, in 17.47, and Helen Brock, for the ladies, in 20.47.
Following the success of the summer series, there will now be a winter series of 5k races between October and April, organised by the Swim and Sports Academy (www.bospool.com), starting at 7.30pm on the first Thursday of each month.
For anyone looking to get fit, keep fit, or start training for an upcoming race, Cheddar Running Club meets each Tuesday and Thursday at the Kings of Wessex Leisure Centre from 6.50pm.
All ages and standards are welcome – training is done in different speed groups from speedy to leisurely, it is a supportive and friendly group of people and no-one will feel left out.
