Almost everything that appears on the X Factor is loud and emotional so viewers could be forgiven for overlooking Ilminster’s contribution to the television show.

But the settee and chairs supplied by Posh Garden Furniture probably got closer to Gary Barlow and Cheryl Cole than any of the show’s contestants.

The firm, based at the Ashwell Business Park, was approached by X Factor bosses at the beginning of September. Producers wanted to use its luxury garden furniture on location during filming at the judges’ houses.

The furniture was shipped out to feature on a recent episode, appearing as Gary Barlow whittled the six contestants in his Over-28s category down to three.

Owner Gemma Barnes said: “It was quite exciting to see it on television, particularly as we were not expecting it to be as prominent as it was. It seemed to be pride of place.

“I’m a fan of the show anyway, but I had to rewatch the episode to find out who went through because I was so focused on our furniture.

“Since then we’ve had a lot of people offering to buy it because it’s the seat that Gary Barlow and Cheryl Cole sat on, but we are keeping it in the showroom.

“They really couldn’t have picked a better weekend for filming; blue sky and plenty of glorious sunshine, arguably one of the best days of the year, meaning the garden furniture got lots of exposure. It looked fantastic within the grounds of the stately home in Boughton House, Northamptonshire.”

Mrs Barnes, of Chard, started Posh Garden Furniture with her partner, Chris, in 2006. Their products have also appeared on other television shows such as reality show Made in Chelsea. The business also has many celebrity clients including garden designer Diarmuid Gavin and interior designer, Julia Kendell.

She said: “We started out working from home and the business has expanded to the point where we needed premises. I used to work for the Met Office so leaving that to focus on the business was a bit of a leap of faith.”
