Taunton stepped up their game and club captain Owen Irish headed against the crossbar and skipper Simon Ingram had a shot well saved before Short struck late on.
Abingdon finished the game with ten men when they had Chris Baker sent off during injury-time for a wild tackle.
A draw was a fair result between two sides who have not had the best of seasons.
Taunton are back in action on Wednesday when they host Frome in the quarter-finals of the Somerset Premier Cup (7.45pm).
