Ideal passenger? Daniel Craig
What was the first car you ever owned?
A dreadful bright orange Lada that I bought from a garage called that specialised in selling poor students clapped out bits of metal. We clubbed together and bought her for £500 and due to her striking orange colour and high pitched tone we decided to call her Sonja after the ginger-haired Liverpudlian singer. She would get attention wherever she went but not in a good way.
Do you have any special memories about it, good or bad?
I was still driving on a provisional licence so always had a friend in the car; the radio didn't work so my friend and I would have an earphone each from my Walkman. When we went around corners the Walkman would fly across the dashboard and the earphones would get tangled in the enormous steering wheel.

How many attempts did it take to pass your driving test and how old were you?
After the Lada experience I gave up on cars and had a motorbike instead until I was 26 and had my first son. I didn't fancy carting him around in a sidecar so took a block of 20 lessons and passed first time.
What is your first memory of going on holiday in the family car and where were you headed?
We never used to go far, usually off to the Norfolk Broads – mum, dad, nan, my two brothers, our next door neighbours daughter and me; we would all sit on top of one another hanging our heads and arms and spades out of the window in the heady days before "clunk click every trip".
What car are you driving now?
A silver Peugeot 206 convertible
What was it about this car that attracted you?
It was an impulse decision…I was mourning the loss of my MGF which came to an oily end and so I urgently needed another convertible. I didn't really care about the details… as long as it was driveable and the roof came off and I could have it that weekend.
Do you give names to your cars and if so what is your present one called?
Sometimes I name them if they have character. Not really connected to this one yet. I think I'm still mourning Monty the MG.
Do you have a favourite journey that you take or remember fondly about?
I love driving from Norwich to Wroxham on the Norfolk Broads as it reminds me of trips with my brothers and my dad. We would drive past the fire station and play a game of guessing how many fire engines were going to be in it. When my brother and I drove home recently we deliberately went along that road, even though there is now a much quicker route, just so we could play that game.
What CD do you have in your car right now or what radio station are you tuned to?
Listening to the Best of Blur at the moment but I tend to change CDs every week.
If expense was no problem what would be your dream car and why?
Well if expense is no problem, we're obviously talking about my alternate life with Daniel Craig as my driver whisking me away in a stretch limo with a hot tub in the back and an endless supply of champagne. Don't think I really need to explain why do I? But failing that, an old style Mercedes 450SL convertible restored to beautiful working order.
What journey would you like to make in your dream car and why?
With such a beautiful car it would be perfect to drive around Monte Carlo and relive some old style glamour
Who would be your ideal travelling companion and why?
If I'm allowed to whisk Daniel Craig away I think I'll take him. Who wouldn't want Bond at their side for a bit of added excitement? I might even let him drive.
