Iconographer in residence
ROMANIAN Iconographer Viorel Popa is in residence at St Margaret's Chapel, Glastonbury.
Viorel Popa is a church painter and Iconographer from Moldavia, Romania.
As a child he was fascinated by the inner and especially the outer paintings of monasteries featuring Byzantine art.
Looking at their beauty he dreamed of becoming a painter of religious mural art.
Eventually after he graduated his dream came true and he has held many exhibitions across Romania.
He will be working and demonstrating his particular method of painting and writing Icons and carving.
He will be at the chapel which is open daily from 10am to 4pm and hopes to be on the site for as much time as possible until August 31.
The chapel is free so as well as seeing Viorel, visitors can rest awhile in our peaceful chapel and sit in our Award winning gardens.
