A 400-strong clutch of bikers are descending on Glastonbury next month as the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Motocamp comes to town.

The motocamp is an international meeting for motorcyclists, with participants coming from around 20 nations across Europe for a week of camping and a chance to sample the best Somerset has to offer.

Paula Fidge, who is arranging the event, said: "We're hoping the event will be very good for the area. We chose to come to Somerset as it's a county that people tend to pass through on their way to somewhere else, and the area has so much to offer the touring motorcyclist.

"Of course, Glastonbury is slap bang in the middle of Somerset and a place that many people have heard of, so it seemed a natural choice, especially with the iconic Tor."

The bikers will set up camp at Tor Rugby Club between June 5 to 11, with excursions to Haynes Motor Museum and the Fleet Air Arm on the cards, as well as live music from local bands and food from local suppliers. Among the delights to be sampled by campers will be English dishes, including cottage pie, and Somerset pork in cider.

The event will finish with a huge parade, with the bikers draping themselves and their bikes with the colours of their countries and driving through the High Street at 11am on the Friday morning.

Schools, businesses and residents in Glastonbury are being urged to watch the riders as they make their way through the town.

Ms Fidge said: "We hope that the schools will allow the pupils come out to give everyone a big wave, and we're asking businesses to put up our posters to welcome the bikers to the town.

"This is a really first-class event and we believe it will bring a lot of business into Glastonbury."
