Huge barn fire breaks out next to Mulberry factory in Chilcompton

Fire fighters are battling to extinguish 100 tonnes of hay in a barn in Chilcompton.

A fire broke out in a metal barn at Rookery Farm at around 11.15am this morning.

    Fire crews are fighting the barn blaze at Rookery Farm, Chilcompton, this afternoon

Employees from the fashion brand Mulberry who work in the neighbouring building called the emergency services after seeing smoke and flames.

Six fire engines and a water carrier are currently at the scene attempting to extinguish the fire.

A spokeswoman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said farm equipment, electrical machinery and livestock has been moved from close proximity to the blaze.

The B3139 in Chilcompton has been closed in both directions between the Coalpit Lane and Parsonage Lane junctions while crews tackle the fire.
