Housing group's big day out gains views
STAFF at one of south Somerset's major housing providers have knocked on thousands of doors in one day to gauge residents' views.
Employees at Yarlington Housing Group knocked on more than 2,500 doors in a single day as part of their "Big Day Out".
The initiative was designed for staff to get an indication of certain areas where residents felt money would be best spent in the future.
Workers visited residents throughout the district – including those living in Yeovil, Crewkerne, Wincanton, Langport and South Petherton – to carry out the research.

Phyllida Culpin, executive director at Yarlington, said: "In planning ahead, we need to be sure that we consider the priorities of our residents.
"It is very important to us to hear from our residents, and our "Big Day Out" got staff out into the neighbourhoods to meet them and hear about what really matters."
With more than 9,000 properties providing homes to 17,500 people in south Somerset, the housing group sought a reliable response to a range of issues, including the expansion of internet access, installation of energy-saving devices and providing additional services for the elderly.
Nick Fry, assistant director said improving internet access is a priority for the provider.
He said: "The reliance on digital inclusion is having such an impact on so many people, particularly those who live in rural areas. It is not something we can ignore.
"From submitting job applications to applying for benefits or seeking advice to getting value by shopping online, it is a fundamental requirement.
"We need to understand the need from those living in our homes."
The findings will form part of Yarlington's "2020 Vision" – the provider's action plan for the next decade.
