FIRE crews from across the area attended a blaze caused by an electric blanket on Sunday.

Engines from Somerton, Street and Glastonbury were called to School Farm in Barton St David when a neighbour noticed smoke billowing from the window of a semi-detached house just after 1pm.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "The Fire Investigation Officer has determined that the cause of the fire was due to an electric blanket being accidently turned on."

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze, which caused considerable smoke damage.
