Hot school dinners are back on menu
Primary Schools around Wells are providing hot school dinners for the first time in generations.
The hot lunches for pupils are being provided by the Blue School.
Wookey School head teacher Clive Rockell said: "We are trialling hot schools meals from the Blue School for the last three weeks of term and so far we have been impressed with the quality of food served.
"We will be making a decision whether to continue with the meals in September, by the end of term, once we have had feedback from the parents, pupils and staff."
The cost of a hot lunch for Wookey pupils during the trial is £2 a day.
Jo Waterman of Bleadney, whose children attend Wookey Primary School, said: "I am really pleased the option to have school dinners is there.
"My children are really positive about it and are enjoying them so far.
"It's much better for them to have a hot meal at lunchtime, particularly in the winter."
St Joseph and St Teresa School has never had hot school meals there before and parents gave overwhelming support to the project.
It costs £2.30 for a hot dinner and a dessert with the menu on a three week cycle, two days a week.
St Lawrence's Primary School in Westbury-sub-Mendip will be offering hot lunches to pupils for the first time from September.
Head teacher Sue Lidgey said: "We will be able to offer hot lunches one day a week initially, because we are such a small school.
"We think it will be great to give the children a nutritious hot lunch, which we haven't been able to do before, and are really grateful to the Blue School for the opportunity."
