Hospital staff step up fight against regional pay

Health union members took their campaign against a South West NHS Trust pay cartel to the streets of Weston-super-Mare, yesterday urging the public to support their campaign.

Unison is campaigning against a consortium of 20 NHS Trusts in the South West who are proposing to cut the pay, terms and conditions of local healthcare workers. Trusts say they are discussing the move to make savings.

Union members lobbied a meeting of Western Area Health Trust Board before setting up a stall on the high street and seeking signatures for a petition.

Joanne Kaye, Unison South West regional secretary said: “Momentum and support is strengthening for this campaign as more and more people are beginning to realise what the pay cartel are doing.
