Great Britain's men's hockey team, featuring Richard and Simon Mantell, battled to a 3-3 draw with hosts South Africa in the third and final match of their training series on Saturday, ensuring the teams ended tied with one victory apiece.

The Baltonsborough brothers' side had led 2-0 at the break of the series decider but let their advantage slip before stabilising and hitting back to earn a draw and a share of the overall spoils.

Team manager Andy Halliday said: "This has been a gruelling two-week camp for the players but I thought they showed good resilience in their attitude and approach to the games.

"We controlled the final game effectively in the first half but we paid the price for a very sloppy first ten minutes after half-time.

"However, it was good to see the character of the group shine through as we battled back to grab an equaliser, and we could've snatched a winner near the end."

Good approach play down the left led to Mark Pearn firing home from ten yards out to give Britain the lead after 15 minutes.

Barry Middleton doubled the advantage three minutes later when a fine crossfield pass from Alastair Wilson allowed Middleton to advance into the circle, from where he flicked the ball past advancing home goalkeeper Rassie Pieterse.

Britain held their lead until the break but four minutes into the second half South Africa hit back, with Wade Paton scoring from a penalty corner. The hosts were level soon after when Lloyd Norris- Jones hit the backboards.

South Africa then completed a remarkable turnaround when they got themselves in front after Julian Hykes pounced on indecision in the visiting defence to fire home at the far post.

Mark Gleghorne rescued a draw for Britain, however, when he powerfully flicked past Pieterse late on.

Great Britain had earlier levelled the series after coming from behind to snatch a 3-1 victory last Tuesday.

After a goalless opening half, South Africa drew first blood shortly after the break but the visitors kept their cool to score three goals in a devastating five-minute period to turn the tie on its head.

Marvin Harper fired the home side ahead shortly after the interval, before Richard Smith levelled the scores with a slipped penalty corner.

Harry Martin put Britain ahead when he beat home keeper Brendan Botes from close range before Jonty Clarke completed the turnaround after rounding the South Africa stopper and slotting home from an acute angle.
