Homeless people hold Christmas fair
As the temperature drops, the nights draw in and Christmas approaches many people spare a thought for the people sleeping rough in our community.
To provide opportunities and awareness, Elim Connect Centre, Wells, are hosting a Christmas Fair this November with a difference. The majority of stall holders are currently or have recently been sleeping on the streets.
Elim's street level access programme manager, Emma Rossi, said: "The tough economic times we are living in have contributed to a rise in rough sleeping throughout the UK and we are doing everything we can to help local people who find themselves without anywhere to sleep.
"We have discovered some incredibly talented people who because of the situation they find themselves in do not get the opportunity to showcase and benefit from their skills."
With stalls selling pictures, crafts, cakes, pickles, confectionery, ceramics, cards and more there is certainly something for every Christmas shopper.
In addition the Connect Centre are laying on children's activities, refreshments and entertainment.
A number of programmes are being run by the Elim Connect Centre to help homeless people access the support they need.
Among these are activity groups with qualified artists, potters, business trainers, providing space and facilities to make gifts and the means to purchase materials to prepare for the Christmas Fair.
For an opportunity to purchase some excellent Christmas gifts and help a friendly group of rough sleepers help themselves, find out what's on offer at the Christmas Fair on November 24, between 11am and 4pm at Elim Connect Centre, Portway, Wells.
